President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, for their remarkable performance at the recently concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Independent Mirror reports that the players were hosted at a presidential reception held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, where President Tinubu conferred on each player the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
In addition to the national honours, the president announced several rewards for the team members and technical crew.
Each of the 24 players will receive a 3-bedroom apartment at the Renewed Hope Estate, along with a cash reward of $100,000.
Also the Coaches and the 11-man technical crew and backroom staff will each receive $50,000.
The National Governors’ Forum (NGF) also contributed to the celebrations, with Governor Hope Uzodinma announcing a gift of ₦10 million for each player on behalf of the forum.
