Federal Capital Territory Administration has commenced a sweeping operation to enhance security and curb illegal activities in the nation’s Capital city.
The FCTA has so far impounded more than 280 vehicles in a bid to enhance security.
The impounded vehicles include cars, tricycles, and motorcycles, which were seized in a renewed clampdown on criminal elements and unauthorised transport operators.
The raids, conducted under ‘Operation Sweep Abuja Clean,’ targeted black spots across the city, with security agencies seizing unregistered vehicles, arresting beggars and scavengers, as well as clearing illegal commercial operators from the roads.
Director of FCT Security, Adamu Gwary, disclosed that the joint operations by security and traffic agencies in the past week have significantly disrupted criminal activities.
Gwary, who was represented by Dr Peter Olumuji, during the exercise provided a breakdown of the seizures. “For traffic offenses, over 40 vehicles have been impounded. We have also confiscated more than 200 commercial motorcycles for aiding criminals through route violations, and over 40 tricycles (Keke Napep) operating illegally.”
